Many of my Scottish relatives used a family surname as a middle name. Often it was the mother’s or one of the grandmother’s maiden names. However I have found a surname appearing from several generations back.

... while my great grandfather in Dundee, instead of the usual middle name coming from a relative's surname, used the surname of his father's business partner for his middle name.

One branch of my family shows a middle name taken as 'homage' to a benefactor of the same surname. He never married, so was it a way of having his surname carried on?

My husband and his siblings all have mothers maiden name as a middle name, my grandson has been given his mothers maiden name as a second name....all Cheshire / Lancashire family'

My family in Cumbria also have surnames as middle names!

Maybe you need to do a bit more family research into the distaff side of this family!

I presume JHH is the son of Wallace being b 1911
