Help finding Tom Eustace / Eustes in 1891 please

Postby teach3r » Mon Jan 21, 2019 7:27 pm

Thank you in advance for any help that can be given.

I have been unable to find my great granduncle Tom Eustace in the 1891 census and would appreciate any help that can be given to find him.

He was born in Compton, Berkshire 1868 to Amos Eustace and Mary Ann Clarke and baptised in 1869.

I have the other census details as follows:
1871: Compton, Berkshire
1881: Chaddleworth, Berkshire - Scholar
1891: ??
1901: Brightwalton - Shepherd
1911: Maidenhead Thicket - Shepherd

Other life events include
1894: Married Fanny Georgina Haines
1935: Died - Maidenhead

I have searched FMP, Ancestry and Genealogist but to no avail.

Thank you

I agree, he is missing!

Have you seen a copy of his marriage certificate yet. Just wondering what he put for his address in 1894.

Hi MortimerCat,

Thank you for taking the time to search, confirm and reply - much appreciated. I have taken you up on your great suggestion and ordered the marriage cert to see where he was living then.

Fingers crossed!

Update: I now have the marriage cert for Tom Eustace and Fanny Georgina Haines. It states that their residence at the time of marriage was Brightwalton. I have looked again at all the people living in Brightwalton on the 1891 census and cannot find either Tom or Fanny, although Tom's parents and some of his younger siblings are living there.

I wonder where he is.

The Berkshire Downs are very open so would have been even more so and, in places quite remote, in 1891. Even today Brightwalton is quite a way off the beaten track.

The Downs is a huge open area and he could quite easily have been absent for a couple of days at a time. Have you considered the possibility that maybe he was simply out somewhere on the Downs with his flock of sheep when the census was taken and his parents simply forgot to include him in their return?
