Edward Hemming bap. circa 1781

Postby ebriggs@shaw.ca » Sun Jan 13, 2019 5:30 pm

I am searching for the baptism of Edward Hemming, widower, buried Langford, Gloucestershire 14 Aug 1833 aged 52 years. Left four minor children: Harriet [1817], James [1819], William [1823]and John Edward [1825]. Married Elizabeth Mullis[s] 7 March 1818 Hazelton, Gloucs. Robert Wakefield was a witness, his sister married James Hemming from Brailes, Warwickshire in 1809. Cannot find a link in Brailes to both Hemming.

Upon the death of Edward Hemming his brother named John Hemming was called to look after the four children. [Inland Revenue Index] John renounced the task. A second grant was made to Alfred Hemmings Edward Hemmings Next of Kin, died 11 Feb 1858. GRO records give a infant death for Alfred. Tried death for John Hemming 1858, located one, traced census and his baptism. No brother Edward. Also deceased listed as Edward B Hemming. Searched Midlands area, not Edward Hemming bap. 1781 from Feckingham Worcs as this person was alive in 1851.

Hello
It is a bit of a needle in a haystack but I have found a candidate.

Edward Hemmings son of John and Mary Hemmings at Coughton Warwickshire 10.8.1783 born previous day.Father a protestant ,mother a catholic and baptised at the catholic chapel.God parents William Chapman and Elizabeth Curtis.

Siblings at the chapel (birth dates)
Ann Mary 28.11.1773
Elizabeth 1.8.1776
Sarah 12.6.1780
John and Henry 26.4.1786
Hannah 1.8.1788
Joseph 1.4.1791- 16.11.1791

John and Mary married at the chapel 3.6 1771.She was a Mary Smith .He came from Bideford and she from Coughton .
He died 8.3.1800 and she 21.4.1796.

Obviously I don't have proof that he's the right one but worth a look?

FindMyPast lists a "Edwd. John Hemming," son of John (a Mariner) & Jane, baptised 27 Dec 1781 in Deptford, Kent.

There is also a "Edward Heming," son of William & Ann, baptised 21 Mar 1784 in Studley, Warwick.

A Family Tree on Ancestry says Edward's wife, Elizabeth Mulliss, was born 12 Aug 1787 in Meriden, Warwick but doesn't cite any reference.

They also list an "Alfred Heming," son of Henry (a Surgeon) & Sarah, baptised 23 Nov 1826 in Wisbech, Cambridge.
