Married 2nd to Mary Newman soon after in late 1861

It's a long shot but Findmypast lists a James Shilton buried in Warstone Lane Cemetery in Birmingham in 1899. However, the GRO spells his last name "Shelton" aged 49. I can't find him in any Birmingham census to confirm, so, wonder if someone guessed about his age?

He and his father, James the first, were both married twice.
James the first married Mary Smith around 1835 and second to Mary Newman in 1861.

James the second married Ann Hamersley in 1855 and second to Mary Yarrow in 1864.
James the second had two sons named James by his two wives, the elder sibling having died young.

The younger sibling, whom I will call James the third, was born in 1865, but was not living with his mother in 1881. I can't find his father, so, perhaps there was trouble at home?

James the third married Mary Hannah Webb in 1892, listing Birmingham as his residence. He and his mother, Mary Shilton b.c.1827, Little Downham, Cambridgeshire, were living there in 1891. They returned to Foleshill between 1896-1901, which if his father had died might make sense?

James the third's half sibling, George, married Mary Crichlow in 1878. James the third and George's original marriage records can be found on Findmypast. It doesn't mention their father being deceased but I don't know if it normally would or not? Perhaps someone else might know?

Thanks for this - you may well be correct with this. Shilton was often mispelt as 'Shelton'.
The age difference is puzzeling - but most of the Shiltons were illiterate at this time which could account for a mis understanding.
I can't find him in 1881 or 1891 as Shilton or Shelton BUT perhaps he dropped out until death 1899!!

His 2nd wife Mary Shilton is a general servant & states widow in 1881 with a tea dealer & grocer in King Street, Bedworth - had James left the family by then? Mary possibly stated widowed as she was 'living in' as a servant (I've come across this before) & didn't want to state 'married' as questions could have been asked.

son George is married as is daughter Mary A by 1881 & son James b 1865 is in Proctor's Yard, also King Street, Bedworth age 15 bricklayer's labourer on his own in 1881; then mother & son together in 1891 in Rotton Park, Birmingham prior to his marriage in 1892; when Mary states 'mother' BUT by 1901 she is a widow which would fit with James Snr death in 1899!
