I have the marriage as the 1887 one as on the 1911 census they say they have been married for 24 years.

Thank you for your help! :)

Noticed in 1891, Sarah is listed as "Sarah J D Kelly."
Also in 1899, her son is baptised "Jacobus Bolton Davie Scott Dodds."
You mentioned your ancestor's 1888 marriage certificate records him as "John James Davie Kelly."

It's a long shot but there was an Alexander Scott who married Mary Davie in Aberdeenshire in 1844. Presumably, they had at least one child before their wedding.

Hi MayHam.

Yes I had noticed the 'D' added to Sarah's name in the 1891 census although at the time of her birth she was named only Sarah Jane Kelly. The same thing had happened to my great grandfather John James Kelly. He added Davie to his name on his marriage certificate.

I will see what information I can find on Alexander Scott and Mary Davie.

Thank you
:)

They had a daughter, Jessie, born about 1858 in the 1861 Greenness, Monquhitter, Aberdeenshire, Scotland census so probably not the right family.

The following is from ScotlandsPeople. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any siblings.
Scott Thomas 8/3/1879 sometime farmer, South Tulloford, parish of Tarves, co Aberdeen, thereafter residing there, d. 24/09/1877 at South Tulloford, intestate, son of Mrs Ann Davie or Scott and late Thomas Scott, etc Extract Inventory Aberdeen Sheriff Court Inventories SC1/36/84

I did wonder about the following.
SCOTT, JANE
DAVIE
GRO Reference: 1844  M Quarter in ALNWICK UNION  Volume 25  Page 236

Thank you for that. I can't though find Jane Davie Scott anywhere else at the moment.
Well worth a good look though.

1851 is the only census I can find Jane with her presumed parents, William & Mary (Davie) Scott.
I can't find their marriage but a daughter, Barbara Elizabeth, was baptised 20 Mar 1836 in Felton.
I found most of the other siblings through the GRO.

Her presumed parents are found in
1841 Hedgeley, Low, Eglingham, Alnwick, Northumberland, England
1851 Causey Park, Morpeth, Northumberland, England
1861 Brinkheugh Cottage, Low Weldon, Brinkburn South, Rothbury, Northumberland, England
1871 Weldon, High, Low Brinkburn Ward, Rothbury, Northumberland, England

I do have a few doubts with this Jane...
The Jane Scott I was looking for was born in Scotland and on her death certificate her name is given only as only Jane not Jane Davie.
Also my ancestors spelt Davie as Davie. On the census for William and Mary Scott they spell it Davy.
Although to be honest the spelling is not much of a worry.

I have looked at the birth for Jane Scott 1844 volume 25, page 236 but cannot find any reference to the name Davie.

All so confusing!
