Thanks sdup26 & ianbee,

I've found the records on FMP - Amelia's daughter Mary Jane is buried with her under her married name of Smethurst. As a point of interest, Mary Jane seems to have been brought up by her late fathers sister and brother in law as Mary Jane Lovett

I've also found Fishpool Workhouse in Farnworth, again close to Bolton. At the time of Amelia's death I think it had become more of a hospital than a traditional workhouse

I just need to find Amelia in 1871 now to tie up the loose ends

Thanks again for all your help

Fishpool Farnworth - how did I forget that? One of my ancestors was in the fever hospital that was added to it. Townleys Hospital was eventually built on the site.

So far, I haven't found Amelia in 1871. Do let us know if you find her.
