Identification of uniform.

Postby Keith Hughes09 » Sun Aug 19, 2018 3:14 pm

Can someone identify this uniform please. On enlargement I feel that the cap badge could be R.A., but not certain as it isn't clear. Frederick was born August 1897 In West Derby so he would have been 17 years old in 1914. I feel that he looks older here so I presume that it would be in the latter part of WW1.
I haven't been able to find his military record online so I presume that it is one of the ones destroyed in WW2.
Any help would be appreciated.

That's definitely Royal (Field or Horse) Artillery. That would also fit with the spurs on his boots (I think that's what they are), the bandolier and the lanyard on the left shoulder (though I understand the left-handed lanyard is not as diagnostic as some think). I think the lanyard has a clasp knife attached at the other end - presumably currently inside his left breast pocket.
