George edge 1911

Postby Moonbeam79 » Tue Aug 14, 2018 7:51 am

Hi, on the 1911 census it has my great grandad listed as working at kings hall theatre Cheshire Chester,as a ticket distributor. Does anyone know where I’d be able to find a photo of the theatre? Would love to see where he worked.

Oh, my mistake, that actually makes more sense because my mom actually grew up on kings hill. Thank you

Hi
There's mention of King’s Hall, "a variety theatre and cinema" in Earp's Lane, here
http://www.historywebsite.co.uk/article ... nesses.htm

Apparently in the 1920's ("after renovation") it became the Rialto Cinema, and there seems to be a picture of that
http://cinematreasures.org/theaters/37606

Is this what we are looking for? It looks like it was a bingo hall by then (with the 1930's rebuilt facade?)

Benjamin Kennedy and the King's Hall were in the news in early 1911!

Thank you for your help. Haven’t been researching my tree for long and I’m still trying to tie everyone together
