What happened to Albert Dunn?

Postby nuttree » Tue Aug 14, 2018 5:01 am

I have been looking at a family that originate in Dudley spend a short time in Montreal then some returned to Dudley. I have been able to follow the parents and 11 of the 12 children but the youngest is proving difficult to follow can anyone here help please?
Albert DUNN was born in Woodside Dudley in 1888 son of William DUNN and Mary nee Jewkes. He is with his parents and some of his siblings on the 1891 census in Montreal, he returned with his mother and a brother and sister in 1897
UK Incoming from Montreal to Liverpool arriving Oct. 19, 1897 on the ship "Labrador"
Dunn, Mrs., age 58 wife
Dunn, Lucy, age 18, servt.
Dunn, Zenus, age 10, child
Dunn, Albert, age 8, child
His married sister and her children are also on the same ship
He is in Dudley with his parents in 1901 and with his married sister Lucy GILES in 1911 but what happened to him after that? His brother Zenas returned to Canada in 1907 and brothers William, James and John had remained in Canada with their families William is on the Canadian 1911 census. William and Zenas have a child each baptised on the same day in Montreal in 1915.
David PYWELL(sometimes Powell) son of sister Fanny returned to live with William (He is on both the UK 1911 census and the Canadian 1911 census) before moving to the USA. David and Albert were both with Thomas GILES in 1911 did Albert go to join him or Zenas?
Why weren't William DUNN Snr and his son in law John ROWLEY mentioned on the passenger list?
They must have travelled to Canada between 1888 ( birth of Albert in Dudley) and 1901 (on Canadian census) can anyone find them on a passenger list arriving in Canada?

I have looked for Albert and cannot find a match for him!

There are a number of A DUNN listed post 1911 sailing to Canada, but none you can positively say are your man.

Why weren't William DUNN Snr and his son in law John ROWLEY mentioned on the passenger list?

Searching for William Dunn/John Rowley, I came across this census entry. Are they connected to your family, or are the names a coincidence?

1891 Canada Census, St Ann's Ward, Division 13, Montreal.
William Dunn, 23, Winifred Dunn, 22, wife, both born England, son Sidney Dunn, one month old.
Next door is John Rowley, 24, and Elizabeth Rowley, 21, both born England.

His youngest child John William was born in Canada in 1895 therefore there is approx a 6 year period for the return to the UK

He is on 1901 UK census

It looks as if he re married to Susannah Hall nee Langford 12 Jan 1902 Sedgley

1911 UK Census

1939
He was at 30 New Town Brierley Hill b 10 July 1866 with Susanah b 15 Aug 1865

At no 16c is a John W Rowley b 27 Sept 1894, his wife Eleanor children John / James / Eleanor +one other

yes you havethe correct John Rowley his wife Elizabeth died in Dudley in 1900. it just seems very odd that his wife and children an in law and some of her children travelled together with out their respective husbands:
UK Incoming from Montreal to Liverpool arriving Oct. 19, 1897 on the ship "Labrador"
Dunn, Mrs., age 58 wife
Dunn, Lucy, age 18, servt.
Dunn, Zenus, age 10, child
Dunn, Albert, age 8, child

and just above them is
Rowley, Mrs., age 28, wife
Rowley, Mary, age 6, child
Rowley, Eliz, age 4, child
Rowley, Jas age 1, infant
As you correctly point out John now widowed with his children is with his parents in law in 1901 Were the men on the Labrador as well but how were they missed from the list?

Not sure if this is the same man?
There is an Albert Dunn, born 1882, living in Dudley in the 1939 Register with his wife and children.
