Royal Naval Division

Postby pawkydawky » Wed Jul 18, 2018 1:04 pm

My Great Uncle John Docherty joined the Royal Naval Division at the beginning of WW1. I've heard they disbanded later on in the war and is it true? Is there any way of finding out it they moved on to other regiments? John Docherty was living in Bellshill at the beginning of the war.

You could try looking at the records on The National Archives website but be aware some of the birth places may well be wrong. There are a number of people called John Docherty so dates of birth and where should help. The RND did disband in 1919 and the records should say where the person went after that.

The National Archives Research Guide is here...

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help ... 1914-1919/

Findmypast also has the same records. I would use the library or get a free trial if I were you.

Your man would appear to be Z/3932. It appears that he was discharged as "unsuitable" in 1916.

Have a look at Findmypast.
