It is a possibility that Minnie is a nickname. I had a look at all Prices registered in London in the time frame but could see nothing obvious that Minnie might be short for. Her registered name might not even resemble Minnie. This is a case where DNA testing might help (have had some headway myself on an unknown grandfather).

Thank you, IanBee, for the clue about the Swansea Prices.
Any chance Minnie's mother *might* be Bertha Morgan, a cousin of Emma & Elizabeth's parent?
Bertha was living with said parent in the 1881 census.

It's certainly a very plausible scenario, especially given the strict moral code in South Wales in the late 19th century (known from a story in my husband's family that after discovering his daughter was pregnant one father actually tried to hang himself).Bertha, pregnant and single, is taken in by a close relative and subsequently married to make her and her daughter 'respectable'. One wonders who the mysterious Mr Johnson may have been that Bertha could not marry him even though his name was known.
And could this possibly be a child of Edwin and Bertha, perhaps born after his father's death?
PRICE, THOMAS MORGAN [ Mother's name] MORGANS
GRO Reference: 1885 S Quarter in MERTHYR TYDFIL Volume 11A Page 549?

A very long shot obviously, given how common both surnames are in South Wales.

But then the big question remains: why on earth did Minnie (and neither her half brother not her stepsisters) end up in Edmonton? And presumably not a recent arrival in 1890 since she had attended the school long enough to be chosen for Canada?

I agree with DianaCanada about the possibility of Minnie being a nickname. It triggered a memory which sent me off to rummage in one of my files. My late father-in-law had an aunt called Minnie but she was registered as Mary Elizabeth. I also looked in a dictionary of names that I have. This gives Minnie as one of the often used nicknames for Mary, Miriam and Wilhelmina.

Hi I'm not sure if he will be able to help but if you google Frank Bayford Chase Farm School you will see that Frank used to be the Chief Pharmacist at Chase Farm Hospital and has given many talks locally to groups about Chase farm School. He has also written a wonderful history of the place based on his research. If you contact him I'm sure he will be pleased to help.

Further to Sparrow's post, I note in the 1881 census that Edwin Price says he was born in Mitcheldean, Gloucestershire. Is it possible he had relatives in Edmonton?

Further to Elsabels' post, the original marriage record can be found on FamilySearch.org. In the space provided for the names of Minnie's parents, it simply says "not known orphan brought out from England."

Emma & Elizabeth Price had a sister, Hannah Louise, who apparently joined them in Canada.

The record actually says under Parents: "unknown, orphan brought out from England". There are two Ontario marriages for Minnie on Ancestry and both say this.

Wonder if Nicole can confirm from family knowledge the date her great grandmother actually celebrated her birthday each year.
What appears to be a discrepancy over year of birth Is slightly puzzling (school/emigration records indicate she was 9 at time of leaving England) but this does happen (quite commonly a one year discrepancy).
If the Canadian record is correct she would of course just have turned 7 at the time.
