Sad news about Sylvia Murphy

Postby Editor » Wed Jun 20, 2018 11:19 am

We are very sorry to announce that one of our most valued contributors to this forum and a dear friend to the magazine, Sylvia Murphy, has passed away after a long illness.

Over the past ten years, as Sylcec, Sylvia had posted over two and a half thousand times on this forum offering valuable support and advice to hundreds of people needing a helping hand with their research.

Specialising in British in India research, she was, however, knowledgable in a broad range of family history topics as her helpful posts over the years have shown. She also contributed to the magazine and we were delighted to meet her when she visited from Australia a few years ago.

Her presence on this forum will be missed and our thoughts are with her family.

Sylvia had posted only a few months ago to tell of her health problems. I hope she was comforted by the numerous posts there were in response to this and that she knew that, not only was her wealth of knowledge and time she gave to the forum hugely appreciated but how valued she was as a friend to many of us.

I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say if you are able, please pass on our love and sympathy to her family. Do tell them how much of a hole she'll leave in the genealogy community and how much we will miss seeing her beautiful elephant appearing on new posts.

Although we never met I am sure that others will agree that we've lost a friend.
Very sad.

Sylvia helped so many people with their brick walls and queries, giving her time and advice freely and generously. She will be missed. Please pass on my condolences to her family.
