James Watson Hall

James W. Hall can be found on the 1881 census living with his mother (Mary A. Hall) and his father (Enock (sic) Hall). He is shown as being born in Bilson in 1873.

James Watson Hall can be found on the 1891 census living with his mother (Mary Ann Hall) and his father (Enoch Hall). He is shown as being born in Bilson in 1873.

On the 1901 census, James Hall is living with his father (Enoch Hall - who is now widowed) and with his wife (Elizabeth), daughter (Gertrude) and son (Enoch).

His parents were married on 27 March 1875 at St Luke's Church, Bilston, Staffordshire (two years after he was born).

I have looked for both James Watson and James Hall, born for around 1873 in Bilston, but I am not finding his birth record. Can one of you find what I cannot?

Thanks,

Peter

Peter,
As Bilston falls in the Wolverhampton RD, and James was born prior to parents marriage, I did a phonetic surname search on new GRO site, for James Watson, born 1873+/-2 in Wolverhampton RD and up popped this result:

James WATTSON (sic) 1872 Q3 Ref 6B 580, mothers maiden name not shown.

Could this be what you're looking for?

I was doing this when you posted, I think it could all tie in....
Maybe a red herring?!

There is a baptism at Bilston Staffordshire of:
James WATSON
17 July 1872
Chapel Street
Father Labourer
son of John & Mary Ann Watson

1871
RG10; Piece: 2950; Folio: 119; Page: 3;
There is a John WATSON b 1850 Bilston living at Chapel Street
also at this address is sister Mary Ann WATSON b 1849 which ties in with the dob of Enoch HALL'S wife.

For respectability have the brother and sister claimed to be the married parents of James Watson on his baptism or has Mary given her brother's name?

Digging deeper WATSON may not be their surname but Wat(t)erson?? Birth entry found?

Do you have the marriage certificate of Enoch & Mary Ann information on it will help you solve the mystery!

I have attached the marriage certificate of Enoch Hall and Mary Ann Watson (in case you can spot something that I have not).

John Watterson b 1821 can be found in 1841 living at Gozzard Street, Wolverhampton census ref HO107 1001 4 15 22
He is descibed as an engineer

As John Waterson he marries Sarah Corbett ( later Rogers) in 1842 Wolverhampton,
8 Aug 1842
Marriage Place: St. Peter, Wolverhampton, getting a copy of the parish register maybe cheaper than the marriage certificate

1851 he is living with the Corbett family at Bradley Lodge Row, Wolverhampton with Sarah ( later Rogers) John & Mary Ann census ref HO107 2021 223 36

John's death?
WATTASON, JOHN 31
GRO Reference: 1852 S Quarter in WOLVERHAMPTON Volume 06B Page 291

burial 8 July 1852 St Mary's Bilston

James Wattson - born 21st July 1872 at 43 ChapelStreet, Bilston is correct! No father's name is given BUT the mother's occupation is Japanner (which is correct). Many thanks to those of you who helped me to find him.
