WW1 Military career of Herbert Blissett

Postby phsvm » Mon May 28, 2018 5:53 pm

I'm trying to find military records for Herbert Wilfred Powell Blissett, born Feb 1894 in Berkshire.

The Reading Mercury for 10 June 1916 reports the Wantage Tribunal had exempted him until 15 October 1916, although it gives his name as Herbert William Blissett. His grandson reports he 'joined up late and worked behind the lines with horses'. This would sound right was he was a carter in civillian life.

I am unable to trace either his records or even his MIC. He is not Herbert Blissett, Royal Fusiliers 34655 as he was KIA. Nor is he H W Blissett, Depot Rifle Brigade P 929. He has a Silver War Badge which indicates he enlisted on 25 May 1915 and was discharged on 17 August 1916 so that can't be him either.

All help in tracing him much appreciated.

'Stand at ease'. Found as Blessett, not Blissett!
