More missing burials

Postby SDV » Sat May 26, 2018 2:38 pm

I am trying to locate the burials of two married couples, both distant relatives:

Wilson WRIGHT - d Jul 1892 (BMD ordered) @ Pindock Mews, Paddington
Sarah WRIGHT (née Daniels) - d 19 May 1923 @ Abbotts Road, Norwood

William WRIGHT - d 13 Feb 1895 @ Paddington
Mary Ann WRIGHT (née Daniels) - d 07 Jan 1899 @ Maida Vale, Paddington

Sarah (b 1835) and Mary Ann (b 1821) were definitely sisters. And I believe that William and Wilson were brothers.

I have had some difficulty determining the births/baptisms of the two brothers, though I know that they were both born in Dunmow, Essex - William in c1822 and Wilson in c1835. I suspect I will have to buy a subscription to SEAX to find out more.

As always, any help gratefully accepted.

Try Family search, using film 1472220 (Great Dunmow) they are both listed.
Both have a father called William, but Wilson has a mother called Mary, whilst William’s mother is shown as Marianna.
Other christening with mother Mary are shown in period 1830-1837.
Those with mother Marrianne or Marianna are dated earlier, around 1822-1827.
There are no overlapping use of Mary and Marianne, so could be same person, who went from using Marianne to Mary. (Change of Vicar?)
Sadly FS doesn’t have images for this film

Browsing FamilySearch Film 4513845 (Great Dunmow BT) there is a marriage for a William Wright to a Mary Anne Hinson/Henson on 2nd August 1821 (This image is downloadable). This matches the early baptisms around 1822! (Note: This film is not indexed)

I'll now look for a later marriage around 1830

EDIT: Couldn't see another William Wright Marriage in Great Dunmow, so the above one may be parents of Wilson & William (there could always be another William & Mary married elsewhere) but it is highly suggestive they were brothers as you thought

EDIT2: Just checked the BT images for the christenings, and both fathers are shown as Carpenters!

Mick - many thanks for this. I guess I will have to try SEAX for the actual images.

The burials, however, still remain elusive.

MIck has found subsequent baptisms at Great Dunmow, presumably starting with William in 1822

These are the bishop's transcripts. Watch out in case there are missing years. For the parish registers (including the original signatures on that marriage!), yes, you need SEAX.

Many more images are available on FamilySearch than people realise, because their contents aren't indexed so don't show up in normal search results.

If instead, you search the Catalogue for the parish you're interested in, and select on-line, you'll get a list of available records for the parish, and selecting Church Records, you'll get a list of films available, and if they have a camera icon, are also free to browse.

TIP If, when browsing a film, you are prevented form downloading a particular image due to restrictions, take a screen shot.

Personally, I always try the Free options, before paying someone like SEAX :D
What is especially galling is that the films on FS for Great Dunmow came from the Essex Record Office in the first place!

As a bit of a follow up, I have just realised that I can't find William in the 1841 census and that I can't find Wilson in either the 1841 o4 1851 censuses. It would be nice to locate them in these early censuses. As always, any help gratefully received.

They may have left Dunmow by 1841
Birth, Sep 1840 Chelmsford 12 46
Wright, Mary Ann
mother Hinson

Mary Ann Wright and children could be in Islington in 1851 (no Wilson)
piece 1500 folio 772 page 17
Those children include Ellen Wright, 7, born Holloway
March 1843 Islington 3 246
Wright, Ellen
mother Hinson

Baptized there 26 March 1843
