Gavin More's grandparents (second attempt)

Postby MayHam » Fri May 25, 2018 12:00 pm

Gavin was baptised 4 April 1731, Bothwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland to Robert & Cristian (Carbreath) More. Gavin's siblings Robert (1728) and Thomas (1734) were also baptised there.

A Robert More married a Christian Galbrath in 11 Jun 1715 in Paisley Abbey, Renfrewshire, Scotland.

There are several candidates for the parents of Robert Sr. and Christian. Unfortunately, I can't confirm. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Just as an aside, Robert Sr.'s occupation is listed as a weaver.
I've read the family is descended from a non-conformist branch of St. Thomas More's family. There were said to have married into the Dunkards when the line was lost. They were Baptists later.
I don't know much about the Dunkards and assume they are similar to the Baptists? Wikipedia says Cromwell brought the Baptists to Scotland in the 1650s.
