Help to identify this WW1 uniform

Postby Steve56 » Tue May 08, 2018 7:42 pm

This is likely one of my long-lost relatives. That's the good news!!
The bad news - I have no info (at the mo) on him nor no idea what the uniform is. I think the cap badge shows he was in the Royal Naval Air Service. But the chevrons on his sleeves are in a pattern I have never seen before.
Any help would be much appreciated!!

Hi Steve56

The rank chevron look to me like a CSM, they also appear to be the pre WW1 wool stitched type. More common on "old contemptible" soldiers. The cap badge however does not marry up with his rank as I did think this rank was a RNAS rank, someone may know more on this one though.

Cheers

Dan.
