Spencer Isle of Wight 1913

Postby Mikicat » Thu Apr 26, 2018 1:10 pm

My grandfather, Edwin George Spencer, had a daughter born about 1912/1914, unfortunately name and mother unknown. He lived in Ryde on the Isle of Wight. He died in WW1 in 1916 on HMS Hampshire, aged 23. I would very much like to trace this daughter. Any help would be much appreciated.

His wife's name is recorded as Amelia Josephine on WW1 Naval Casualties.

Marriage 1915 IOW to Amelia J BAND

There appears to be a late birth entry in 1927 for a Gordon George Spencer mmn Band for 1913 Willesden.

No daughter found as yet.

Gordon George's birth is first registered in March Q 1913 in Willesden under the surname Band with mother's maiden name as Band. There is a note directing to the 1927 registration which Trace found.

Amelia J appears on the 1901 and 1911 census returns on the Isle of Wight. There is an Emily Band in Poplar in 1911 so I'd say she was a more likely candidate as the mother of Gordon.

Without wishing to pry what evidence do you have that you grandfather had a daughter?

Thank you all for replying. I have the details on Gordon Spencer, parents Edwin and Amelia Spencer. It is the daughter I cannot find. My father told my sister that she was born about the same time as him in 1912/1913 but did not give any further details. She was never mentioned in the family when we were children. (Family skeletons in the cupboard!) Unfortunately, there are so many unknowns: was she born on the Isle of Wight? Did she survive infancy/childhood? Was she adopted etc. etc.? I know is is a shot in the dark but I was hoping that someone out there was a relation or knew of her.
