surname ENGLISHIRE in Derbyshire

Postby daughterofronny » Mon Apr 23, 2018 12:42 am

I have Jane ENGLISHIRE marrying Thomas DAKIN on 13 Feb 1737/38 in All Saints, Kirk Hallam, Dby. Thomas was baptised on 17 Mar 1711 in Spondon, Dby, I have been unable to find Jane being baptised or indeed any other persons named ENGLISHIRE. Jane was buried on 4 Jun 1785 in St Wilfred's, West Hallam, Dby. I would appreciate any suggestions re the surname of ENGLISHIRE or could it be ENGLISH or ENGLAND?. I have a copy of the Church record for the marriage of Jane & Thomas and her surname is definately ENGLISHIRE. Jane and Thomas are my 5 x great grandparents. Many thanks, Annette WATSON

Might Jane’s surname have been Egleshaw?

Have you looked at the original record rather than a transcription?

Thomas is recorded as DEAKINE

Try contacting Derbyshire Family History Society they maybe able to shed some light on the surname
