Paris ladies art college c. 1900

Postby lilys » Fri Apr 20, 2018 8:24 pm

I am researching my 2x great aunt, Ada Blanche Ward (b. 1871). Ada told my mum that she's gone to art college in Paris, but dropped out and returned to her family in south Devon. I've failed to find any records either of her travel or enrolment. Does anyone have any ideas where I might find records for this?

This portrait of her is from 1892.

Lovely photograph!
Unfortunately there are no records kept of passengers travelling across the Channel; this was more like a ferry service. As for "Art College in Paris" - there were probably several of these, finding records of her enrollment will probably be a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Have you thought to search the South Devon newspapers? If Ada's family were prominent members of local society, there may well be brief paragraph announcing her return from overseas.
