Anyone for a Davies/Jones challenge?

Postby nuttree » Fri Mar 30, 2018 6:46 pm

Yet another long term blockage!
William DAVIES son of Benjamin Davies married Elizabeth daughter of Evan JONES in Cwm Avon 16th May 1855.

1861 Michaelstone super Avon, Glamorgan
William DAVID Head\Lodger Mar 32 Coal Miner Pembrock Narbeth
Elizabeth Wife \Do # Mar 32 Carmarthen

1871 Michaelstone super Avon, Glamorgan
William DAVID Head Mar 42 Coker Caermarthenshire Langynog
Elizabeth DAVID Wife Mar 42 Pembroke Narberth
The children are all Davies not David!

1881 Michaelstone super Avon, Glamorgan
William DAVIES Head Mar 50 Labourer Iron Works Pembroke Narbeth
Elizabeth Wife Mar 51 Carm St Clares

1891 Michaelstone super Avon, Glamorgan
William DAVIES Head M 61 Coker Employed Pembrokeshire, Wales Welsh
Elizabeth Wife M 61 Carmarthenshire, Wales

They both died before the next census

Can anyyone help me find the births of William and Elizabeth please? Its been another problem that we keep revisiting with out finding their hiding places and these are direct line.

What are the occupations of Benjamin and Evan at the marriage?

Unfortunately groom and both fathers were labourers after the marrrriage William became first a coalminer then a coker

NB just labourers no mention of agriculture or docks or any other industry

Have you missed something out in that sentence? It doesn’t make sense :D but if you meant to say they were all ag labs or something then at least that rules out the Benjamin Davies Hatter dynasty
And also all the Benjamins who farmed acreage.

Sorry I had over written "labourers" ( I am still recovering from eye surgery please forgive daft typing on times)
Unfortunately its not that one Ianbee when Thomas married the certificate has his father as John a tailor
BUT I too had gone down that line at one time. It still bugs me a bit as I can't find another William on the 1851 census born in Narbeth and living in Michaelston Is it possible Mary married first a JOHN then a Ben between 1820-1829 and were both husbands Davies? What do you make of the name DAVID on two censuses and Davies on the marriage and last two censuses ..that also bugs me a bit

Hi
In Wales anything is possible. But it doesn't look very promising. I am wondering if in 1841 Mary Davies was Maria David in Newport, Pembrokeshire. In which case her maiden name might have been Bowen (Thomas's son was named Hopkin Bowen as well). Looks like Mr Davies was John, as you say.
So easy to go round in circles with these names!

OK to clear up what I already have for Thomas:
1841 HO107/1421/20 fo11 p15 Thos. DAVIES 25 Hammerman Y
20th December 1846
Thomas DAVIES of age Farrier Father John DAVIES Taylor
Mary THOMAS of age Widow Father Hopkin BOWEN Farmer
1851HO107/2462 fo322 p39
Thomas DAVIES Head M 31 Farrier Pembroke Marberth

For WILLIAM
1841HO107/1448/19 fo16 p25
WITH Thomas WATKINS 25 Blacksmith Y
William DAVIES 12 Y
Jane 10 Y

As he is with a blacksmith I assume this is Thomas the hammerman/farrier's brother rather than my William but notice the JANE DAVIES see later
1851HO107/2462 fo322 p39 with Thomas as a shoeing smith

Would he be a shoeing smith in 1851 and a labourer in 1855??
Next my William marries in 1855
1861RG9/4083 fo37 p17
William DAVID Head\Lodger* Mar 32 Coal Miner Pembroke Narbeth
with ELIZABETH and daughters Jane and Phoebe surname was David not Davies ;)
JANE was my husbands Gr Grandmother So was our Jane named after the Jane in 1841 and that was our WILLIAM after all???

I don't think the Newport couple are the ones that John was an ag lab and Thomas's father was a tailor.
I had wondered about this Mary HO107/1448/19 fo19 p19 in Narbeth with a son George but who was George aggrrrr this line as you say goes round and round and just never gets clearer#thank you so much for attempting the challenge this is probably the hardest blockage to solve.
