world war one cap badge

Postby mejue » Mon Jul 14, 2008 6:46 am

Please does anyone recognise the cap badge on my ancestor. He was supposed to be in the 2nd battalion of the welch regiment but he joined aged 16 in the cheshire regiment and was discharged after an appeal from his mother as he had lied about his age. When he was old enough he re enlisted to the welch regiment and was unfortunatley killed in france in 1918.[:(] many thanks Julie

If you know the name of your ancester you can look in the "Medal Drawer" at the National Archives site. This shows all the medals given to WW1 soldiers. It will show which regiment the soldier was in. In my case my ancestor was in the East Surrey Regiment but as the war started was transferred to the Northamptonshire Regiment. At the end of the war he then returned to the East Surrey Regiment. So this may sort of thing maybe why there is confusion.
