Children of Henry Flint

Postby FlintK » Sat Mar 24, 2018 10:46 am

Can anyone help please. Henry Flint states on the 1911 census that he and Mary Ann had 7 children but 6 had died. Dorothy Grace Victoria was born in 1900 and is the only child shown on the 1901 and 1911 censuses. Can anyone find the other 6 and when born and died. Henry was living in Bedminster Bristol.
Thank you.

The General Register Office will allow you to search under Births and will show the mother's maiden name. I see by searching for Dorothy that her mother's name was Parsons. So if you do a search through the years with Flint/parsons you should be able to find them and then match them for deaths on FreeBMD which is faster to use than GRO.

Hello Diana,
I tried as you suggested but can only find one other match Marion but registered in Chorlton which is in Manchester and no death for her prior to 1911.

The only way is to use the parish registers for Bedminster (more than one, but St John seems to be the main one) where Mary and Dorothy came from. It may be that they were only listed as 'Male' or 'Female' if they died soon after and why there are no entries under Flint. Bedminster was in Gloucestershire until 1899 then moved to Bristol, Somerset, and the records are in Bristol Record Office.

The index would say Male Flint or Female Flint.
Mother's maiden surname would still be given on the birth registration. Perhaps they misunderstood the question - total children born alive
