Car parking charges at The National Archives

Researchers might like to be aware of charges starting next month (Blue Badge holders will be exempt)
(http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/abou ... -site-kew/), it is unclear what difference this is to the charges announced in 2010 (were they stopped?), the article from the WDYTYA Magazine was:-http://www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com/news/new-parking-fees-announced-national-archives. It does seem counter-productive as the assumption is that it is financially worthwhile (and upsetting researchers!), I had doubts about the financial issues, how many researchers travel by road to Kew except by coach, are schools to be charged?. Are TNA that badly off?.

Not surprising given the drive for all government departments to maximise their income ... many archives charge for parking and have done for a while. TNA has been a welcome exception. Their decision may also have something to do with the large number of residential apartments that are being built right next to the car park which could potentially fill all their spaces if left free.

A shame, but not unexpected.
