GEDCOM family tree transfer help

Postby Simon45 » Sun Feb 11, 2018 10:12 pm

I would like to transfer my tree over to Find my past from Ancestry

How do I do it and will I still be able to keep my tree on Ancestry?

Many thanks
Simon

when you have your tree chart page open, click on the name of the tree (top left) choose settings, on the right, towards the bottom of the page is the download a gedcom file option. Your tree will remain on Ancestry.
I’m not familiar with uploading to FMP but I am sure there will be a button and you upload the gedcom file.

Hi
Thanks for the reply and information

Will my tree automatically be uploaded on Find my past , or will I have to manually type in the names and dates again for everyone ?

Thanks Simon

It should give you the option to import the whole tree.

Ok
I think I have to save or download my tree to desktop first from ancestry

Then import to find my past ?

As I understand it you won't get everything - no images, citations etc.

Still can't do it fro my I pad ?
I've downloaded it onto my I pad front page / desktop from ancestry
It comes out in text format
How do I transfer it to find my past

As find my past upload requires it from photo album or I cloud drive ??

Thanks again :)

I use Family Tree Maker 2017 (for the Mac) to keep track of my tree and post updates daily to Ancestry.co.uk.

To post a copy of my tree to FindMyPast and GenesReunited I export it as a GEDCOM file and then import it onto FindMyPast and GenesReunited. It works pretty well.

Have you downloaded your tree from Ancestry as a Ged file?
If so it will be a text file with the name ending .ged

If you have registered with Findmypast you can then upload/import the ged file to their website using the link at https://www.findmypast.co.uk/build-your-tree
Cheers
