My family has had this family photo forever. Yet we cant seem to identify the uniform. Anything helps, thank you.

I really can't contribute anything material at this point but is there a possibility that this is not British? What looks like a crown on his left shoulder just doesn't look like any of the British crowns that I have seen....

This one has me stumped too atm. I agree with Adrian about this one not looking like a British uniform, I am trawling through reference books searching for anything. Is this picture an original? If it is, are there any markings on the back at all that may narrow the timescale or help locate it.

Not really much use but just in case it's of use elsewhere, I just found this site http://www.germandaggers.com/Gallery/CT0W.php showing lots and lots of Imperial German Army Shoulder Boards (which I always used to call epaulettes until I found out they were the big fancy things). I could convince myself (rightly or wrongly) that the crown is the typical rounded crown seen in many of the examples - except that the ones in the photos have 5 verticals to the crown. On the other hand, this may simply be that the curve of the shoulder board has hidden one of the verticals. Absolutely nothing like enough detail here to identify which board though. It might not even be Deutsches Heer (German Army)

(Anyone who, like me, has inherited a couple of liberated German shoulder boards, might, however, find the link of interest).

There are many sites on the internet for the SS-Begleitkommando des Fuhrers - formed in the 1930s. These were the handpicked personal bodyguards of Hitler so may or may not fit with what you know. I looked at a few of the sites but couldn't see enough detail on photos to help with identifying anything on your photo though.
