Thomas Timpenny Coales was born about 1820.
He was baptized on 14 January 1820 at St. Peter’s, Wisbech, Cambridge.

He became a tailor.

By 31st May 1842 he had moved to Doncaster, Yorkshire, where (on 31st May 1842) he married Sarah Hampson at the Independent Chapel, Doncaster.

They had three children (all born in Doncaster):
* Thomas Timpenny Coales (born 16 February 1844 - about Feb 1927)
* Lucy Rebecca Coales (born 10 November 1846 - about Aug 1847)
* Emma Coales (born 20 Dec 1847 - about May 1851)

His wife (Sarah) died on 16th April, 1949 (in Doncaster).

After Sarah Coales died his eldest son (Thomas Timpenny Coales) was on the 1851 census as living in Great Grimsby, Lincolnshire with his father’s brother
In the 1861 census, his is back in Doncaster, and living with his father’s father.

This is EVERYTHING that I have found out about him! I have not found him on a single census and I do not know when he died.

Can you help me to find him on a census and when and where he died?

Do you mean his wife Sarah died 1849? (rather than 1949?)

His wife (Sarah Coales, née Hampson) did die in 1849. (It would have been impressive it it had been 1949!!!!)

All not born county

Did he have a relation called Francis (cousin perhaps?)

Unfortunately it is a name with lots of scope for mistranscription.
Do you have death certificates for his wife or even his daughters? I note that Emma's death was registered in the June quarter of 1851 so we might expect her still to be alive at the time of the 1851 census (30/31 March) but I cannot find her.She could of course have died just before that and her death not be registered until April.

That is a good idea.

I have just ordered the death certificates for her and her older sister (who died in 1847) and her older brother (who died in 1927 and was registered under the name "Cooles").

"She was in the Doncaster union workhouse in 1851."

Hmm tempting to assume her father had either died or disappeared by then (assuming he is not in the Workhouse too).The Workhouse staff would presumably provide the informant ( had hoped it might establish that Thomas was still around in 1851!).

Assuming you have Emma's birth certificate (as you have exact DOB) who was the informant there? One can assume her father was still around in March 1847 (her conception) though I suppose it is possible, if Thomas had already died/disappeared, the real father was unknown.

Perhaps of minor interest: Thomas' parents William and Rebecca were already in Doncaster at the time of the 1841 census, living in Scott Lane with his sisters Mary, Elizabeth (before 1834-1847) and Kezia (1834-1849). Elizabeth and Kezia appear to have been born in Doncaster (baptised together on 15 January 1834 though according to census Elizabeth was two years older) and died there.
Have not yet tracked Mary.
Interestingly the family's neighbours in Scott Lane were tailors.
