State Library of New South Wales

State Library of New South Wales has a number of portals to old newspapers (including British) that can be searched. You can log in and use the resources from home if you have a library card (and pin number) from any library in NSW. For example - I live in Castle Hill and simply log in using my Membership Number and Pin for Castle Hill library.
I have been able to search UK and Irish newspapers and find references to family members in overseas newspapers. They also have a list of e-resources and one dedicated to Family History - where you can see what is available at the library as well as online.

I have been in 2007 and this is the most beautiful library I've ever been. In a grand and elegant building, rich research materials and spacious environment are available for visitors. Very worth visiting.
