another will, that of Fred SMART d 26 Mar 1928, it was written 24 March 1924, leaves among other bequests income from 3 houses to be shared between his grandsons Kenneth MAKINSON and Peter SMART for their maintenance and advancement in life.

Fred had 4 children who survived to adulthood that I know of. Plus one born and died 1896.
Jessie Gladys b 1889 d 1971. She married Rev Joseph Crowther Makinson in 1914 and had Kenneth 1915. All three mentioned in the will. And Kenneth has been straightforward to follow subsequently.
Fred Linnington (Lin) b 1891 mentioned in will, no wife mentioned. Married Bertha York KAY 1929. One daughter b same year.
Norman b 1892 died Passchendale 16 Oct 1917. No mention of a child in roll of honour which also says he was unmarried.
Godfrey Eric Sutton b 1894 d 1970. M 30 July 1919 to Dorothy Edna HALL. Referred to as Dolly in the will.
Of these the only feasible parents are Godfrey and Dorothy. I can find a daughter Doreen V b 1924 but I can find no Peter.
The other options are that he is an illegitimate son of Any of the other three. Can anyone see a likely birth?

Probably too early but there is a Peter James Hall (mother maiden name Hall) J Quarter in WEST DERBY Volume 08B Page 455, that might have been adopted by Godfrey after marriage to Dorothy

Thanks Woodchai,
I’ve wondered about that Hall one. I hoped Fred, the maker of the will, would have put “adopted grandson” but perhaps he might not.
