I'm trying to convince myself that the occupation of William Waine, 62, in Tynemouth in 1891 is Agent Assurance, Local Preacher!

Event year 1883
School name Buddle Schools
Town Wallsend
County Northumberland

The admission date for Benjamin was 18 September
The previous day's newspaper -
Shields Daily Gazette, 17 September 1883
Opening of a New Church at Wallsend
Methodist New Connexion
Rev. W. Waine, the newly appointed Minister

Could the school record have the wrong name for Benjamin's father?

That's William. But is the Sarah he is married to in 1891 the same Sarah (nee Hall) we see in 1861 and 1871? It's possible that her age is a bit younger? There is a widowed Sarah A/Ann Waine, born circa 1838, living in Tynemouth in 1901 and 1911.

Because in 1881 there was apparently a Rev. W. Waine resident in Newtownards, Ireland, the Minister at the Methodist (New Connexion) Chapel there (info from Methodist publications)
Which might explain the absence of the family in the 1881 census.

Seeking some confirmation as to whether it might be the man we are interested in, I wondered if any of the family featured in the Irish BMD indexes.
In 1883, just a few months before the arrival of Rev. W. Waine (and Benjamin!) in Wallsend, there was the death of a Sarah Waine in Newtownards.

Had a granddaughter, Beatrice Everson Dixon, born Wallsend, with her in 1911. Hopefully that's a clue.

Marriage, June 1886 Tynemouth 10b 352
Everson, Sarah Ann
Waine, William
+ 2 others

Local indexes for North Tynemouth confirm that William Waine married Sarah Everson. Her father's surname was Shotton.
