I see that you, Ian, have also referenced James Aldred, gardener, in the 1851 census. I too found this yesterday, but saw that FMP have managed to index him as having been born in Leith, MIdlothian, Scotland - all because the pob is written as Atherton, Leith, rather than Leigh. Talk about making assumptions! It's got to be the right man though as living in Collyhurst Road. HO107/2230, Fol.794, p.20
