Hi
I think James Smith may be a problem! Lots of us have a Smith somewhere on our tree, and progress, if any, can be slow.
Not always accurate I know, James was a not born county in the 1841 census. As were a few of his children, though they all seem to have been baptized in Limpsfield. But the abode on a couple of those baptisms was Westerham.
And we know the marriage was in Cudham. With Limpsfield being right on the county border, I guess that Kent would be the likeliest place to start the search.

Hi Ian
I think James Smith and Ruth had a few children
I know they had Frederick and Betsy , and I think Betty was born 1839 so should be able to get her birth certificate from the GRO

What other children did they have ?

Was James or Ruth on the 1841 census anywhere ?
- as James died in 1843

Thanks
Simon

Hi
You can see the image of 1841 on ancestry, findmypast, or here
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=562443

For the baptisms you need to have ancestry
Surrey, England, Church of England Baptisms, 1813-1912
here
https://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=4772

You just need to put in "last name" Smith, father James, mother Ruth
With Ruth being a less common name back then, you don't really need to narrow it down further.
The first five in the results are the Limpsfield baptisms
