Trying to find a death and a marriage

Postby phsvm » Mon Oct 16, 2017 3:21 pm

John Annetts married Mary Belcher in Wantage Dec Q 1878.

They had numerous children including Emily (c.1880), William (c. 1882), Charles (c. 1884), George (1887) and Albert (c. 1890).

The 1891 census has the family (although lsted as Annette) in Reading

By 1901 the family (minus father John and George) are listed in Walthamstow living with their mother Mary and Stepfather Walter Light.

By 1911 there is only Mary and Walter (and Walter's brother) on the census which lists them as having been married for 21 years.

I have two unanswered questions.
1. I can't find a death for John Annetts.
2. Going from the 1911 census Mary and Walter Light married in 1890 which does't tally with the 1891 census which shows John and Mary living with their children in Reading. Even if the 1911 census is incorrect and they hadn't been married that long I still can't find a marriage between Walter Light and the (presumably) widowed Mary Annetts/Belcher.

Can anyone have better luck than me with any of this?

Whoops!

George is with the family in 1901. He was in India with the Arm by 1911.

In 1911, Walter and Mary claim to have been married for about 21 years (since about 1890), which doesn't seem to be the case.

In the 1911 census for Chilton, Berkshire, and all listed as born there, there's William Annetts, Head, 59, single, living with his aunt Eliza, 76, widow, and brother John Annetts, 59, who says he's been married for 32 years (since 1879), having had 9 children, 6 alive, 3 died.

This John sounds suspiciously like yours, especially as you refer to the 'numerous children' in his marriage to Mary. Had their marriage broken down, whether involving Walter or not, and they'd separated?

Many thanks.

Yes, I think this is him. The John I'm looking for had a brother William and an aunt (through marriage) Eliza.

At least I can now stop looking for a death and a marriage as obviously neither exist for the dates I was looking for.
