Trying to determine occupation on 1939 register

Postby phsvm » Sat Sep 30, 2017 1:27 pm

On the 1939 register Edwin Adams dob. 7 Nov 1882 is living in Chilton, Wantage RD, Berkshire.

The transcription by FMP is dreadful - it names the other residents and Loves (Louis), Trachel (Rachel) and Mark Clare (Frank Crane).

His occupation is listed as 'General Parker' what ever that's supposed to mean.

Can anyone with access to the register see what they can make of his occupation please?

The writing is pretty awful.
My husband and I both looked at it, think it is General Packer, maybe he worked in a warehouse?

I thought Packer as well.

With writing this bad, I think it unfair to say that the index is dreadful. The most correct reading of Louis' name is Loves as there is no dot over the i. That it's illogical is, to a degree, neither here nor there. I get fed up with people who "correct" my relatives' surnames or birthplaces to ones that they've heard of.
