Michael CURRINGTON (c1743-1826)

Postby MoVidger » Wed Sep 27, 2017 4:25 pm

I'm trying to trace birth and marriage details for my 5 x great-grandfather Michael Currington and his wife Sarah. I have utilised Ancestry, Family Search, FMP, and FreeReg, but am not having any luck so far. Although the surname is definitely Currington, I've also searched for Carrington, etc.

Here are the few details I know:
1822 – wife Sarah (nee ?) died in the Poor House, Abinger, Surrey
1826 – Michael died in the Poor House, Abinger, Surrey

They had the following children, all born in Oakwood, Surrey:
Sarah (1764), John (1767), William (1770-1823), Hannah (1777), Rebeckah (1786).

On FMP, there is a ‘Surrey & South London Will Abstracts, 1470-1856’ record for Michael’s son William Currington, dated 1823 in Guildford. William is my 4 x great-grandfather. It mentions his second wife Jane and their children. However, I have yet to identify William’s first wife (my ancestor). I’m wondering if some of the Oakwood parish records aren’t available online yet?

If anyone has any suggestions or advice, I’d be very grateful!

Thanks Sally and Sucher for the info.

Sally - the 1793 Hascombe marriage is intriguing, but William was baptised in Oakwood (family abode Abinger). Not quite sure how Dunsfold fits in, unless he was living there at the time of his marriage ?? I'll search for a pre-1811 death for a Hannah Currington in Guildford. If one exists, this might be the correct marriage.

I've learned that Currington was a common name in the Guildford/Abinger/Goldalming region, so I have to be careful with any records I find.

Update: Looks like there is an 1809 death record for a Hannah Currington in Guildford.
