Hi guys I am new to this and I am on my first ancestor, my grandfather on my fathers side, I no nothing of him at all but I can not find anything for him eaither other than birth certificate which I have but I can not find any census or death records , from rumours I heard he committed suicide by shotgun which would be interesting to read should I find anything on this, I have searched for news papers but again I turned up nothing:/. Now I know some documents are not released yet something to do with 100 years. So how am I supposed to find anything out. I have hit a brick wall.

Hi, it helps if you can let us know what names, dates, places you have and we can advise where the place to go is if we can't trace it. As far as coroners' records go only a few survive but if they are closed for 100 years then you could apply under the Freedom of Information Act for access.

Finding Documents for ancestor born in 1912

Postby brunes08 » Sun Sep 24, 2017 10:06 pm

I found a death for an Eric Patrick Conway on freebmd.org for 1964. I also found a burial record on Ancestry.co.uk for Eric Patrick Conway on 6th January 1964 at Cudworth St John the Baptist - Yorkshire. He is aged 50 but ages can sometimes be a little out if the informant is not sure of the date of birth. I tried to view the original burial record on Ancestry but it came up with the wrong document. (Gremlins in the works no doubt.). Might this be your Eric?
Forgot to say that Royston and Cudworth are both in the Barnsley district.

Findmypast gave two possible marriages in the same district as the deaths mentioned above - all in the Stainsacre Registration District.
One is Eric P Conway to Florence V Pickworth 1940 and the other Eric Conway to Lilian Smith in 1941. Do either of these seem appropriate?

Hi all and thank you for the reply. I do believe Eric is buried in Cudworth in an unmarked grave and I am 100% sure that Florence V Pickworth was his wife. I also do believe he had more children than just my father but again I can not find anything on them

Burial record is showing on Ancestry now. It just says 70 birchmoor/ birchwood? Avenue. No cause of death. But now you have the registry entry you can order the death certificate

You could also try the local newspapers for details of his death.
Barnsley Chronicle, The Star, Yorkshire Post.

Cheers
