looking for a newspaper article to do with housewifes choice

Postby fisherman2313 » Sat Sep 23, 2017 8:49 pm

Hi

I am trying to find a particalar housewife choice newspaper article which I have seen but it has been lost in house moves etc over the time. The article is to do with my mother who had a dedication on the programme back in the 1960s and had a bunch of flowers given to her by her favourite singer of the time. Does anyone know how I can find out if there is a copy of this still available? I know my late Mother once lived in London but resided in Hampshire, so at the time of the request she was in a hospital having more treatments for injuries which she had received in a 1964 incident. At the time of the dedication I do not know which hospital she was in as I was very young. I was probably aged two or three years old at the time of the dedication. So I haven't any memory of this dedication. All I know is I have seen the article in the past when I was between the ages of 12 -16 years old but unfortunately it has now been lost.

Any help would be appreciated with this. I have tried asking the newspaper archives but they haven't found it as there are too many to go through to find this article as housewife choice was on the radio for several years.

Have you tried tracking the singer to see if you can narrow the timeline down?

Hi

Mums favouite singer at the time was Engelbert Humperdinck. I did include this with my search with the newspaper archive but that did not help them. I suppose he probably did a few for the housewife choice. I think Mums sister who did the request asked for either the songs "Please Release Me" or "The Last Waltz" both were realeased in 1967. I did ask my aunt for some help with my search but she never came back to me.

But Engelbert Humperdinck had his first hit in 1967! No prizes for guessing what it was.
1967 was also the year that Housewives' Choice came to an end.

Hi Ian

Thanks I hadn't noticed the comma after the year 1964. It should of been a full stop. I have also altered the sentence a bit more to make more sense. So readers can understand what I was saying about the year 1964 as the incident happened in 1964 and Mum was having further treatment for the injuries she recieved through the incident, and Mum was in hospital again at the time of the request which was done when the song was a hit having further treatment for her injuries. In 1967 I would of been three years old as well.

You could try asking James Hyman of the Hyman Archive.

http://www.hymanarchive.com/

James is an amazing guy who has, over the years, collected over 120,000 individual magazines. His archive is unbelievable.

I've sent him a number of old magazines I found when clearing out my mother's house where she'd lived for nearly 60 years. The archive is a valuable resource and I'd encourage everyone to have a look at his wib site and support him if possible.

Have you thought of trying the BBC archives?

Hi

I have now contacted the BBC archive and they should come back to me regarding this article some time. Thanks for thinking of this idea.

Hi

The BBC have just come back yesterday and asked me for more info but I do not know some of the info so I have just asked some of my cousins if they can help me with some info to forward my search. So until I get the info I am stuck.
