In 1871 he could perhaps be Isaac Horton, 23, Puddler, born Staffordshire Princes End, lodging in Attercliffe cum Darnall. Piece 4699 folio 187 page 4.

Ok, so your suggestions seems to be outstanding!

Thomas Orton appears to have been norton in princes End, Tipton, Staffordshire to George Horton and Ann Garland in Q3 1847. I have sent off for this birth certificate. If the father is shown to be a “file cutter” (well spotted on that one) then I believe that I will be on to something. I have sent off for Thomas orion’s birth certificate.

Using the surname “Orton” and then looking for “Sarah Orton” I find the following for the 1881 census:

Isaac Horton, iron works, born about 1848 in Princes End (Tipton).
Sarah Horton, born about 1848 in Bilston.
Also, there are six children (all with the mother’s name of “Hall”), the eldest two being born in Sheffield, Yorkshire (possibly connected to file cutting).

Thank you. I am one step closer.

That would almost certainly be him, as his first two children were born in Attercliffe.

In the 1891 census, Isaac Orton is shown to be widowed, so Sarah Orton (née Hall) died between 3rd April 1881 (as she is in the 1881 census) and 5th April 1891, but I cannot find her death record.

Getting closer...

I have now found Thomas/Isaac orion's birth and death record as well as the elusive death record for Sarah Horton, née Hall.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I have sent off for all of the birth and death records , and now (since I live in Las vegas, USA) I will have to with 21-84 days for the postal service to get them to me

Thank you.
