Elizabeth Garwood

Postby pforkes » Sun Sep 03, 2017 12:12 pm

Elizabeth Garwood is my great grand aunt. She was born on 25th January, 1863 in Porringer, Suffolk.

On 14th April 1890 she married Frank Clark at St. Matthew's church on City Road, Islington, London.

She had three daughters: Florence Elizabeth Clark (b Q1 1891 in Southwark); Winifred May Osmond Clark (born 12th June 1894 in Southwark); and Phyllis Florence Clark (born on 23rd January 1899 in Walthamstow).

The 1939 Register has her widowed and living at 8 Perth Road, Wood Green, Middlesex but it gives no indication of her taking another name, so I am assuming that she never remarried.

I cannot find out when she died. Perhaps someone else can see what I am not seeing.

Thank you.

Wow! Once again, thank you.

Out of interest, what was the process that you went through to find her?

My next area of exploration it to find out who Alfred Atkins and William James Holmes were. To my knowledge, she only had three children (all daughters) and at the time of her death only one was alive and she was married to Havelock Race Ashton, so why did she not leave her belongings to her daughter, through her son-in-law?

Again, thank you!

Think you are mixing up 'Probate' and 'Will'.

Probate is granted to Executors of the will .... The Will may contain the info you are after..

I was interested in the address, Elizabeth Clark wasn't listed there in 1945. Had she died or just moved?
You can search for text in the probate calendars on findmypast (Probate Calendars Of England & Wales 1858-1959)
So I typed in "8 perth road", and we got lucky, it brought up the page in 1942 with her entry.
If there had been no probate, it would have been much more difficult to pin down the right death for such a common name.

Thank you for that explanation.

Where did you look to see who was living at 8 Perth Road in 1945?

Hi
On the London electoral registers on ancestry.
Charles Atterton and Gladys Atterton were there, as on the pre war rolls. I don't think Gladys was at home on the 1939 Register, Charles was there. Elizabeth Clark had a separate schedule.
