WW1 regiment identification Ralph Taylor

Postby sbarnard74 » Fri Sep 01, 2017 9:09 pm

I believe this is Ralph Taylor, born 1892, but need to identify the cap badge to confirm. Any ideas? Also, what are the two markings on his left sleeve? Thanks.

Hi sbarnard74

There are a few possible regiments for your chap. I think, and others may be able to help more, that it may be The Sherwood Forestors (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment). The other possibles being The 4th Battalion, The Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire Regiment) TF. Or. 12th (County of London) Battalion (The Rangers). However the top of the badge by the crown and the scroll across the bottom, to me at least, resemble the 1st one I mention. The 2 stripes are "wound stripes", indicating some sort of wound in a campaign.
Hope it's of some use, other folks may be able to help more.

Dan.

Thanks Dan, that gives me a good place to look further. Ralph was from North Yorkshire so the Sherwood Foresters may be an option.
