East End Publicans

Postby walthamx » Tue Aug 22, 2017 12:56 pm

My great uncle, William George Newman (born 1900) ran a pub in the Barking Road, Canning Town/Plaistow.

It was with his second wife - so that makes it after 1949 and he died in 1974. Is there anyway of finding out which pub it was?

There is a possibility he may have been known as Mick.

Try Pubshistory .com
In 1939 Register he was at 25 Nursey St Wandsworth, which from the above website was The Hope, with an Edith E Moore who became Mrs Newman according to the Register.

1939 Register has one William G Newman born 1900, living in Ilford.
Date of birth 6 April 1900.
He seems to have died in Canterbury in 1977?

There's one in Dagenham, born Sep 1900, he may have died in 1974.

I think we need a little more information to try and help you please.
Do you have the exact dates of his birth and death?
What were the names of his wives and when and where did they marry?
Was he always in the pub trade?
