Clara Maria Duncan born 1858

Postby Sucher » Wed Aug 16, 2017 4:45 pm

Hi, I hope that someone may be able to help.

1. Clara Maria Duncan was born 26 December 1858 in London
2. On 31 January 1882, she married George Fielding Tew
3. She and George had three children who died in infancy but had one survivor, Ernest William Tew who was born in 1886.
4. George died in the March Quarter of 1890. Clara was then only 31 years old.

I have searched everywhere I know for what happened to Clara with no success.

Her son, E W Tew married Alice Olivia Gray in 1909, their son Ernest Charles was born about January 1911 but sadly died during the June quarter of that year. Again, the trail goes cold and any help and advice as to what happened to the Tews would be appreciated. Thanks.

Who is the Clara Gray, 44, that Ernest Tew is living with in 1901? She has a daughter Nancy. He married in 1909 giving that same address, 52 Star Street.

Hi All, many thanks for your time and patience.

I did pen a reply but I think my browser must have timed out since it's gone AWOL. I think that it's highly likely that Clara Tew and Clara Gray are one and the same.

I found a private tree on Ancestry with 9 sources for Alice Olivia's father Benjamin I have contacted the owner who I was in touch with several years ago and am hopeful. Did Ernest William marry his mother's 'stepdaughter', looks possible.

Much appreciated

I couldn't find the 1891 census entry on Ancestry until I searched on Edward Gray so thank you. Last week, I walked along Marylebone High St for the first time in over 20 years - slightly spooky. I also found a Clara M Gray who died March Quarter 1931, year of birth OKish, place Marylebone so perhaps this is my great, great Aunt? Looks promising.

Clara was dogged by tragedy. Widowed at 31, 3 children lost in infancy, 1 son died less than two weeks before Armistice Day, hope Mr Gray made her happy.
