help needed to read occupation please

William Lucas, occupation......... ?

FMP have it transcribed as Carter Monger but I dont think that's right. On an old occupation web site I found a Garlic Monger which I think it could be.

What do you lovely people think?

Costermonger was an occupation and that could fit the writing.

Do you know an earlier / later occupation of the individual?

I agree. I think it is 'costermonger'. If you look at 'painter' on the line below, the enumerator has not crossed the 't' - it looks the same as in costermonger. Also, if you look at what appears to be 'hawk' in pencil just before - a hawker is also a street seller.

I agree, it does look more like Costermonger. I'll have a look for the next census & see if that helps.
