Upon closer examination, I believe Edward D. should read Edmund W. Thorp.

Thank you, MayHam. The Edmund you found married Mary Higham in 1933 in Bury so in 1924 he would have been single. The address in 1924 was 3 Smethurst Street, Elton, Bury.

Was Edmund the only possible candidate in your search?

MayHam - Sorry, I've just seen that you had found the marriage.

Unfortunately, Elton is not one of the options that can be filtered as far as I can tell.

1939- 3 Smethurst Street , Bury C.B., Lancashire, England
James Taylor 05 Jul 1904 Male General Labourer (Unemploy Married 109 1
Mary A Taylor 12 May 1903 Female Unpaid Domestic Dutie Married 109 2
Sorry, this record is officially closed.聽Check if you can open a closed record.
May Taylor 08 Dec 1930 Female At School Single 109 4
John Taylor 24 Apr 1899 Male General Labourer Single 109 5
http://search.findmypast.com/record?id= ... 2F007%2F03

The previous page lists an Ethel (looks like Thorpe) whose father Robert Lewis Thorpe died in 1934.

1939- 289 Tottington Road , Bury C.B., Lancashire, England
Annie Thorpe 26 Nov 1863 Female Incapacitated Widowed 107 1
Ethel Horpe 07 Feb 1890 Female Cotton Weaver Single 107 2
http://search.findmypast.com/record?id= ... 2F006%2F42

The only other E. Thorp(e) I could find in Bury is Eliza H., wife of James Thorp.

1939- 16 Maxwell Street , Bury C.B., Lancashire, England
Eliza H Thorp 12 Feb 1886 Female Unpaid Domestic Dutie Married 25 2
James Thorp 30 Jun 1884 Male Blacksmith Married 25 1
http://search.findmypast.com/record?id= ... 2F004%2F43

There was an Alice Thorp in Bury in 1939 but her maiden name appears to be Hamilton.
She and Fred Thorp married in 1919 in Bury. He doesn't appear to be closely related to Ethel.

1939- 389 Walmersley Road , Bury C.B., Lancashire, England
Alice Thorp 17 Dec 1889 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties Married 236 2
Fred Thorp 05 Sep 1897 Male Master Painter & Decorator Married 236 1
Lilian Lofthouse (Thorp) 21 Oct 1927 Female At School Single 236 3

Maybe the following could help narrow Edmund's whereabouts in 1830?
It is possible to view the records on the computers of your local LDS centre.
Just scroll down and click on the camera icon.

Oops, sorry -- wrong century.
Tax lists might help but I couldn't find them on FamilySearch.
