Help needed with Canadian records.

Postby Trena » Mon Jul 31, 2017 2:27 pm

Hi, I am trying to find out more about George Ronald Phyall born 1st of May 1911 in Thanet, Kent I know he married in 1931 but believe that marriage ended, He moved to Ontario Canada in 1951 alone and in the 1957 Canadian voters list he is living with a Lilian Phyall I would be very grateful if anybody is able to find out Lilian's Maiden name. Thank you.

By searching on Ancestry there is a marriage for Ronald G PHYALL to Lilian R KIDNEY: 1936 Dec quarter, Stroud, Kent Vol2a page 2121
This may well be your couple.

Hi thank you for your reply however Ronald George Phyall was George Ronalds Phyalls twin brother. Abit strange having the same names but it seems to happen alot in the Phyall family.
Thanks again.

Sorry - I can only find George Ronald's gravestone (b Margate, England, 1911, and died 10/8/1979) which doesn't mention a wife, or any family members. Just a thought - you say George 'was living with'
Lilian Phyall - any chance she wasn't his partner but a child of his who moved out to Canada to be with him?

There's a marriage between a George R Phyall and Doreen Kemp in Q1 1931 in Gravesend in Kent (vol 2a page 1126). The only Phyall marriage I could find where the spouse's name is Lillian is the one already mentioned by Nicola.

Thank you for all the replies. I believe george may have married the Lilian in question in canada as he died there in 1979. Its a sticky subject, you see my dad was adopted and his birth parents were George and a Lilian Margret Elliott, I believe it was an affair as george and lilian were married to different people at the time my dad was born, so as I am sure you can imagine I am very interested to find out if the Lilian living with George in Canada is Lilian Margret Elliott.

Do you know where in Ontario they lived? Have you checked local newspapers for obituaries?
The Toronto Star has its archives online and they can be searched (might be for a fee). If they were in the Toronto area, you might find something. I did find several references there for a branch of mine that had moved to Toronto in the late 1800s.

Hi, George lived in Toronto and someone from another forum kindly checked the obituaries and there is no mention of Lilian in it although it does mention a daughter Lynne. I have looked at the Toronto star website but have yet to find anything.
