John Skinner Donaldson (1887-1970-1977)

Hey Folks

Looking for the death of my great grandmothers cousin John Skinner Donaldson. He was born on the 2nd April 1887 in Scone, Perthshire.

He worked as a Grocer and was listed as living at 8 Linacre Lane, Liverpool, England during the 1911 census.

Some twenty days after the census he is detailed as a Grocer under the name J.Donaldson sailing on the Balmoral Castle from Southampton to Cape Town, South Africa on the 22nd April 1911.

The only other piece of info I have is from his army discharge papers as part of the Royal Army Pay Corps (RAPC) where during February 1915 he was said to be unfit for service due to him having pain due to a damaged nerve and him falling asleep.

From researching the death notices in Cape Town online I have concluded that he must have died sometime between 1970 and 1977 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey

Thanks for your message. I have seen your reference to the 1911 record from the South African archives before, though don't know it's contents.

About three years ago I got the Archives to search there Estate files for John Skinner Donaldson before 1959 and between 1960 and 1969 with no success. The Estate records after 1970 were in the process of being transferred to the archive from the High Court.

I will look at the 1960 census and see if I have anymore luck.

Thanks for your assistance.

Jamie
