OK, thanks again to MayHam here....

The Ancestry Medal Rolls UK, WWI Service Medal and Award Rolls, 1914-1920 give us his Middlesex battalions while abroad:
  • 11th
  • 21st
  • 11th
  • 12th
MayHam found the Silver War Badge entry, which is for the 5th Middlesex. According to http://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/army/regiments-and-corps/the-british-infantry-regiments-of-1914-1918/the-duke-of-cambridges-own-middlesex-regiment/ that was a training / reserve battalion, so I reckon he was wounded overseas, shipped back to the UK (on "a Blighty One") and put into the 5th while they waited to see if he would recover enough to be of any use. Eventually, they decided no, so he was discharged with a Silver War Badge to show that he'd done his bit in the Forces.

Assuming MayHam has done a decent search (and I've no reason to suggest otherwise!), then it looks like his detailed personnel records also went up in flames in WW2. Since the Medal Rolls show him in 3 different battalions, and no dates are given, then all we can say is that any point in time between his Enlistment date of 14-Oct-1916 and his Discharge date of 14-Sep-1918, he could have been in one of 3 different places with one of the 11th, 21st or 12th Battalions, which were in:-
  • 12th (Eastern) Division (11th Bn);
  • 40th Division, 34th Division or 25th Division (21st Bn);
  • 18th (Eastern) Division (12th Bn).
Basically, it simply isn't possible to tell where he was other than France & Flanders (Belgium). Sorry...
