Davenport in Lancashire 1851

Postby sdup26 » Sat Jun 24, 2017 4:04 pm

Jane Smith and David Davenport were married by banns in April 1834, in the Parish of Bolton Le Moors, Lancashire. In 1851, Jane Davenport (b 1811) is listed as a widow, living in Ashburner Street, Bolton, with daughter Betsy Davenport born 1834, and Jane's widowed mother Ann Smith. Please can anyone find Jane and Betsy in 1841, with or without David?

In the 1861 census Jane seems to be born in 1820? And Betsy 1839. Thought I'd point that out. I've found a death for David but I'm going to double check this all before I link it.

Hi
Haven't been able to find them, hope someone can.
Burial in Bolton of a Jane Davenport in 1864, widow of David

Oddly, there's mention in the Bolton Chronicle of 1 March 1851, of the death on 21 February of a Davies Davenport, aged 36, Ashburner-street (buried 23 Feb, St Peter)

ianbee - Very many thanks for the 'Davies' Davenport death in 1851. It looks like David on the burial record, but I see that the GRO also has him as Davies, so I must send for the death cert. Ashburner Street was stuffed with family members, so the chances of it being him are high.

Cmcquade - thankyou. Yes, Jane and Betsy's ages are a few years out in 1861, but I've searched 1841 without putting ages in and still had no luck.

Hi sdup
Do check out all the possibilities, he said nervously (remembering Mrs Tickle!)
Good luck if you do decide to order.
Can see that David and Jane appear to have had a son John, born 1847, although sadly died 1848.
At least a sign that David was still alive at that point, and narrowing down the year range for his death.

Thanks for that Ian; I've taken the plunge already. I've searched for ages for a David death, and as Davies is a very unlikely first name, I'm hopeful. Even confident. I think...

I now have the death cert of 'Davies' Davenport, and it's definitely my David, a brewer, died of phthisis pulmonalis (TB) with wife Jane in attendance, Ashburner Street.

Many thanks again to ianbee for finding the death entry, and to Cmcquade for posting the pic of it.
