An online Genealogy course

Postby pete25 » Thu Jun 22, 2017 1:22 pm

Hi everyone,

I've recently been made aware of the following genealogy course which will start on the 3rd of July, 2017. This course is open to everyone who's interested.

I think I'll be enrolling.

Several of us in our local family history group enrolled on the course when it was first offered. It is interesting and useful even to those who have been tracing family for years. The course gives you the opportunity to respond to each section adding in your experiences etc. 'Students' are from all over the world so lots of interesting interaction. Be prepared though as you can spend far more time on reading other people's comments than you thought!!
Out of interest, I have done several of the courses on the site. They are short term - just a few hours a week - and most importantly are free. Yes free - you only pay if you want a certificate to confirm that you have done a course. There are courses on all sorts of subjects offered by universities around the world. Even if you do not want to do the genealogy course it is well worth having a look to see what is on offer.

Thank you for sharing this - I've just joined up. I have also done previous short courses with FutureLearn and have found them really good. Even though I wouldn't call myself a genealogy beginner I think it will be a useful course to try.

I'm very much enjoying the course.
I might even go further after the 6 weeks and pay to continue...we'll see though.

Yes Pete it is good. Only week 1 yet I have found out things I didn't know. Interaction with other students is helpful too.
