Not sure that you are.
It really looks like it will be Appleton.
1851 census, Swallowfield, has Mary Ann Appleton, unmarried, 30, given as daughter to Robert Tanner. Is she the Ann Appleton, 20, with the Tanners in 1841?
Good idea to get to see that 1823 Stratfield Saye marriage record.

Birthplace for 30 year old Mary Ann Appleton in the 1851 census was Berkshire Beech Hill
http://www.berkshirehistory.com/villages/beechhill.html -
"this reminds us that, until 1866, Beech Hill was the Berkshire part of Stratfield Saye, a parish which, like Stratfiled Mortimer, crossed the county boundary."

This could be her baptism record? Appears to be illegitimate, and with a father named (but it's not Robert Tanner!)
Name: Mary Ann Appleton
Gender: Female
Christening Date: 27 August 1820
Christening Place: Stratfield Saye, Hampshire
Birth Date: 27 June 1820
Father's Name: David Millard
Mother's Name: Mary Appleton
England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975
